Golden Dawn – A European Nightmare from the Future?

Friday 1st November, 7:00 pm for 7:30, Unity House, Fennel Street Loughborough

The presentation from this meeeting is available here as a pdf document

Is Golden Dawn a local problem in Greece or is it a model for future far right parties and governments?

For what reasons are there right wing coalitions which include  the far right in Norway and Austria?

Is UKIP a real threat to UK society which demands the foundation of a left wing party such as Left Unity?

Why is there a far right government in Japan?

Why is the National Front Party a dominant party in France in the lead up to the European Elections?

The Friday Room discussion will consider these questions and more. The discussion will be introduced by Dr. Panayiotis Romanos.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer quotes about a Christian who was arrested by the Nazis and died:

“First they came for the Communists, but I was not a Communist so I did not speak out. Then they came for the Socialists and the Trade Unionists, but I was neither, so I did not speak out. Then they came for the Jews, but I was not a Jew so I did not speak out. And when they came for me, there was no one left to speak out for me.”

One Response to Golden Dawn – A European Nightmare from the Future?

  1. I thought this meeting was really interesting a really good exposition of the global status of the far right; importantly what ‘Takis’ Romanos did, first of all was to give a Chomskian defintion of a far right or fascist state. More speakers should define their terms! The slides of the presentation are now available on the website for all to see.
