Nasty Nuclear Power – but can we curb CO2 emissions without it?

NuclearWasteFriday 5 Dec, 7:30pm, Unity House, Fennel Street, Loughborough

There is an urgent need to reduce CO2 emissions. Sustainable sources have the potential to replace fossil fuel, but not yet.

We need alternative sources of energy available now and for a limited period; Is Nuclear the answer?

Nuclear energy is problematical because of nuclear waste. However we already have a waste problem, maybe adding a little bit more is not such a bad thing in the circumstances.

Should we be looking at Thorium rather than Uranium as a fuel? (much safer, greater availability and much less waste).

Steve Coltman will introduce the discussion by expanding on these issues and John Greenwood will try and explain the reality of technology development timescales.
